City Bank’s Edwards Retires After 77 Years in Banking

January 29, 2026

nameClara Edwards retired from Lubbock-based City Bank’s Monahans branch on December 31, 2025—capping a career that spanned 77 years.

“We are so proud of Clara and all she has done in her 77 years of banking,” Cory T. Newsom, CEO, told KCBD News in Lubbock. “She is an extraordinary example of someone who puts her heart and soul into community banking.”

According to KCBD, Edwards began her career in 1948 at the First State Bank of Monahans. Since then, she has served in many capacities and was most recently the smiling face that greeted customers as they entered the City Bank in Monahans.

On the 75th anniversary of her career, Edwards noted how much banking had changed in her time, while one thing remained constant. “We have new products and new technology, but what hasn’t changed is how we treat people and how we take care of our community,” she observed. “That’s what makes me proud.”

Edwards is active in the Monahans community. She was instrumental in introducing softball to the young women in the area in 1967. Since then, she has coached numerous teams, started the high school girls’ softball program and coached the Special Olympics team. She also volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center and Meals on Wheels.

Established in 1987, City Bank has more than 25 banking offices across Texas and one in New Mexico.
