WestStar Appoints Mims Vice President and Information Security Officer

Christopher MimsOn August 13, El Paso-based WestStar announced the appointment of Christopher Mims as vice president/information security officer. He will lead the development and management of the bank’s information security program, oversee regulatory compliance and align security initiatives with the bank’s strategic objectives.

Mims brings 15 years of information technology and cybersecurity experience, with expertise in cybersecurity operations, security management, risk management and organizational leadership. He also retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service.

“Christopher’s extensive cybersecurity experience and proven leadership make him a tremendous addition to our team,” says Claudia Rodriguez, executive vice president/chief risk officer. “As technology continues to evolve, his expertise will help ensure WestStar remains focused on protecting our clients, employees and organization while supporting innovation and growth.”

Mims earned a bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in information technology and an associate degree. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in management at American Military University. His professional certifications include Project Management Professional, CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner and Security+. He also serves as an assistant coach for Child & Youth Services.

Mims is the recipient of several military honors, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Combat Action Badge and Space Badge.

Established in 1990, WestStar operates 14 branches in the Borderplex region, which includes El Paso, Texas; Las Cruces, New Mexico; and Juárez, Mexico.
