On September 5, Texas Banking Commissioner Charles G. Cooper announced the appointment of Jared A. Whitson as director of bank and trust supervision for the Texas Department of Banking. The appointment is effective immediately.
Whitson began his career with the Texas Department of Banking in 2004 as an assistant examiner and later earned his commission before being promoted to review examiner in 2014.
“Mr. Whitson’s 19 years of bank regulatory supervision and institutional knowledge provide a solid background to succeed in this role,” Cooper says. “I am very pleased to welcome a dedicated bank regulator to the agency’s management team.”
The bank and trust supervision area is the largest division within the Texas Department of Banking, with more than 100 employees. Whitson is responsible for overseeing the regulation and supervision of Texas state-chartered banks, trust companies, and foreign bank agencies and representative offices of foreign bank agencies.
Whitson graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University), in 2002 with a BBA degree in finance. He is also a graduate of the SW Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University.
