Turpen Joins Independent Bank Group as Chief Risk Officer

John TurpenOn July 15, McKinney-based Independent Bank Group Inc., the holding company for Independent Financial, expanded its executive leadership team with the appointment of John G. Turpen as executive vice president and chief risk officer, effective July 26. He will oversee the company’s enterprise risk management and compliance functions and support credit risk and administration.

Turpen has more than 20 years of experience in the banking industry. Prior to joining Independent Bank Group, he served as chief risk officer at Texas Capital Bank in Dallas from 2018 to 2021 and at Texas Capital Bancshares Inc. from 2019 to 2021. Prior to that, he was chief risk officer for corporate and commercial banking at U.S. Bancorp. Turpen joined U.S. Bancorp in 2009 after holding increasingly senior positions in credit, risk and strategic planning at HSBC Bank USA and Wells Fargo. He received a BA degree in finance and an MBA degree in accounting from Drake University.

Established in 1913, Independent Financial operates 93 locations in four markets: Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin and Houston, as well as the Colorado Front Range region.
