Shirley Mae Wood Hall, 87, passed away peacefully on May 28. A resident of Orange, she was one of the community’s most respected banking professionals for more than four decades. Born in 1938 in San Augustine, Hall moved to Orange with her family when she was only a year old.

Hall began her banking career in 1958 in Orange and spent more than 40 years serving customers and mentoring colleagues in the community. Through hard work, determination and exceptional leadership, she rose through the ranks from teller to serving as senior vice president and a bank board member. Hall worked at Orange Bank, Unitedbank–Orange and Hibernia Bank. Along the way, she earned recognition from the Texas Bankers Association and became known for her professionalism, expertise and unwavering commitment to customer service. Her career served as an inspiration to many and reflected the respect she earned throughout the banking industry.

According to her obituary, “[Hall] was a remarkable woman—sharp, witty and full of life. She was exceptionally well-read and could discuss history, genealogy, current events, politics and countless other subjects with ease. She had a lifelong passion for researching family history and preserving stories for future generations, and remained actively interested in civic affairs throughout her life. Shirley embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. She especially enjoyed traveling with her beloved husband, Billy Baron Hall, creating treasured memories together as they explored new places and experienced the history and culture of the communities they visited. She also possessed a creative spirit and enjoyed making pottery and creating stained-glass artwork.”

Beyond her banking career, Hall was active in her community and was involved in numerous civic and professional organizations, including the Orange Altrusa Club, for which she served in a leadership role.

A private graveside service for Hall was held at Wood Cemetery in Bronson.
