In June, Dallas-based TIB The Independent BankersBank NA announced the election of Gary L. Owens and John J. D’Angelo to the board of directors of Independent Bankers Financial Corporation (IBFC).
Owens is the president of Houston-based Wallis Bank and its holding company, Wallis Bancshares Inc. He also serves on the board of the Independent Bankers Association of Texas and is involved with several community organizations in the Houston area. He has spent the past 27 years of his career in community banking. Owens is a graduate of McNeese State University, where he earned a finance and economics degree, as well as an accounting degree.
D’Angelo has served as the president and CEO of Baton Rouge, Louisiana-based Investar Bank since he founded the bank in 2006. Prior to launching Investar Bank, he had 30 years of financial experience, both in banking and accounting. He is actively involved in the Baron Rouge community, serving on the boards of St. Joseph’s Academy, the Louisiana Commerce and Trade Association and Louisiana National Guard Foundation. D’Angelo earned his BS degree in accounting from Louisiana State University and is a certified public accountant.
Owens and D’Angelo replace two directors whose terms have expired: George Fisk, former vice chair of Plano-based LegacyTexas Financial Group and Jim O’Jibway, president and CEO of Bellville-based Austin County State Bank.
