Texas National Bank Taps Bertsch to Lead Abilene Market Expansion

April 27, 2026

Lawrence BertschSweetwater-based Texas National Bank has hired Lawrence Bertsch to serve as market president for Abilene, marking a significant step in the bank’s growth throughout West Central Texas. Alongside this leadership addition, the bank will open a new loan and deposit production office in Abilene this summer, with details to be announced soon.

Bertsch brings more than four decades of banking experience to Texas National Bank, including more than 20 years as president of Citizens Bank NA in Abilene, where he served until its acquisition in 2025.

“Lawrence is a highly respected banker with deep roots in this region,” says Mike Fernandez, president and CEO. “His experience, leadership and reputation for putting customers first make him the ideal person to lead our expansion into Abilene. We are excited to support him as he builds a strong local presence and continues our mission of delivering customized banking solutions to the communities we serve.”

Established in 1995, Texas National Bank currently operates full-service locations in Sweetwater and Tuscola, as well as Bankers Lender, the first and only direct digital bank exclusively for professionals employed in the banking industry.
