On August 16, Texas Banking Commissioner Charles G. Cooper announced the appointment of Gregory Cole Wisian as Houston regional director of the bank and trust supervision division for the Texas Department of Banking. The appointment is effective September 1.
Wisian will be responsible for the bank supervisory activities of the Houston regional office and its 17 staff members. The region is home to 47 state-chartered banks that control approximately $73.8 billion in banking assets and serve communities such as Beaumont, Bryan, College Station, Henderson, Houston, Pearland and Texas City, among others.
Wisian joined the department in 2008 as an assistant examiner, earning his commissioned examiner designation in 2013. He has served as the department’s foreign banking office specialist in the Houston region since 2017 and received his chartered financial analyst designation in 2019.
Wisian graduated from the University of Texas–Austin with a BBA degree in finance. He is also a 2018 graduate of the SW Graduate School of Banking (SWGSB) at Southern Methodist University.
“Mr. Wisian’s examining background and institutional knowledge will help us continue to meet our mission to provide effective supervision to our banks,” Cooper says.
