American Bank Names Curate Capital Founder to its Houston Regional Board of Directors

July 13, 2023

“CarrieCorpus Christi-based American Bank recently announced the appointment of Carrie Colbert to its Houston regional board of directors. She is the founder and general partner of Curate Capital in Houston, a venture capital fund that invests in businesses by women for women. With a background as an executive in engineering and finance, as well as an investor and content creator, Colbert blends business acumen with creativity. At Curate Capital, she sources both funding and investment opportunities, while advising portfolio clients on strategic planning, financial projections, and marketing and social media tactics.

“As a venture capitalist, business leader and champion for small businesses, Carrie’s expertise will help our bank connect with emerging businesses…and especially those that are women-owned,” says Glenn Clements, vice chairman for Houston.

“As an entrepreneur, one of the biggest frustrations I’ve had is finding adequate banking support,” Colbert says. “With American Bank, we’ve found the perfect solution: the technological capabilities of a big bank with the personal touch of a small bank. It’s a thrill to join the regional board and I hope to provide as much value to this dynamic group as American Bank has given to us.”

“We have a strong regional board in Houston and Carrie’s addition only enhances what this group can help American Bank achieve,” says Charlie Phillips, market leader for Houston.

In addition to her role at Curate Capital, Colbert is also an investor and board member of To The Market, a New York-based company powering an ethical supply chain, and an investor and board member of Packed Party, an Austin-based lifestyle gifting brand that encourages people to make every day a party with the firm’s products. In addition, Colbert founded and serves as CEO of CarrieColbert.com, a digital destination to empower women to live, think and dress with more color.

Formerly on the leadership team of Hilcorp Energy in Houston, Colbert worked in various engineering and finance roles serving as senior manager of corporate reserves and director of finance and investor relations. Prior to that, she was a petroleum engineer with Anadarko Petroleum Co. Colbert graduated from the University of Texas–Austin at the top of her class with a BS degree in petroleum engineering. She also holds an MBA degree from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas.

Established in 1970, American Bank has 19 locations in Austin, Houston, San Antonio, New Braunfels, Corpus Christi, Port Aransas, Rockport, Goliad and Victoria.
