West Texas State Bank Announces Two New Hires

March 13, 2025

John E. Grist, chairman and CEO of Snyder-based West Texas State Bank, along with Chris Comer, Lubbock market president, announced two new officer hirings. Both join the team with experience in West Texas banking and both will office at the bank’s new branch at 7202 Slide Rd. in Lubbock.

John DolanJohn E. Dolan joins the bank as senior vice president and chief financial officer. With more than 26 years of financial experience, before coming to West Texas State Bank, he was founder and CEO of ThinkSmart Partners, a business advisement, planning and support firm. Prior to that, Dolan served as chief financial officer for several companies in Central and West Texas, including 7Crew Enterprises, Blackwater Capital Investments, Shannon Health System and Nix Health Care System, among others.

Dolan earned a BA degree in economics and business, as well as an MA degree in economic and business statistics, from Texas Tech University.

Jimmy CarmichaelJimmy Carmichael has been hired as senior vice president/loan officer. A native of Brownwood, he comes back to Lubbock after serving in executive positions at banks in Lubbock, Midland, Brownwood and South Texas, including at ValueBank Texas, The National Bank, Colorado Valley Bank, Brownwood Bank and Bank of America.

In the early 1970s, Carmichael played quarterback for the Texas Tech University Red Raiders football team. He earned a BA degree in history, government and banking while playing varsity for the Red Raiders. Carmichael later completed the SW Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University.

Established in 1950, West Texas State Bank has offices in Snyder, Lubbock, Odessa and Rowena.
