Walker, Texas Department of Banking’s Dallas Regional Director, to Retire

July 28, 2022

Larry WalkerLarry W. Walker, director of the Texas Department of Banking’s Dallas regional office, is retiring after 42 years of service. His retirement is effective July 31.

Walker joined the Texas Department of Banking in 1980 as an assistant financial examiner in Corpus Christi and was promoted to commissioned examiner in 1983. In 1993, he was promoted to assistant regional director. He was later named regional director in the Dallas office, a position he held since 1996.

As a regional director, Walker has had the responsibility of reviewing examination reports, monitoring the financial conditions of banks within the region, interacting with bankers and fielding their questions, assisting with training and staff development, and working on various projects designed to improve the department’s examination process.

A native of Kerrville, Walker graduated with a BBA degree in finance from the University of Texas–Austin. He is a 1988 graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado, where he participated as an instructor in the school’s third-year bank management simulation program for 10 years. He also served in the same capacity with the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University for approximately five years.

“We congratulate Larry on this career milestone and wish him a happy retirement,” says Charles G. Cooper, commissioner of the Texas Department of Banking. “Larry has been part of this agency’s management team for two decades, guiding and directing the department’s Dallas office, where he provided effective supervision to the state’s financial services industry. His institutional knowledge and leadership made him a valuable member of our team.”
