Wade Donnell, CEO of The National Bank of Texas at Fort Worth, recently announced that Steve Parker has been elected chair of Horizon Bankshares Inc., the bank’s holding company. Parker joined bank in 2010 as a senior vice president and was elected director of the executive committee. He served as president of the Azle location when it opened 2011 and served in that position until his retirement from management in 2018.
Parker was elected chairman of the bank’s board in 2019, serving until recently when he was named chair of Horizon Bankshares Inc. Through his chairmanship of the strategic planning committee, he has been instrumental in the development of the bank’s growth and future planning.
Parker began his career in financial services in 1978 as a bank examiner with the FDIC. He has also held positions as an assistant vice president/lender for Texas Independent Bank Dallas, senior vice president/chief credit officer for Lake Worth National Bank and president and CEO for First Bank Azle, where he went on to become regional president after its sale to Pinnacle Bank in 2008.
A native-born Texan, Parker earned a BBA degree from the University of Texas–Arlington and graduated from the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University. He was honored as “Citizen of the Year” in both the Lake Worth and Azle communities. He served as chair of the Lake Worth and Azle Chambers of Commerce, Texas Health Resources Azle Hospital board, Azle Library Foundation and Azle chapter of the American Heart Association. He also previously served as president of the Sertoma Club, Rotary Club and Kiwanis Club.
