David Kapavik, president and CEO of Moulton-based SouthStar Bank, recently announced two promotions. Brent Gibbs has been promoted to executive vice president/Central Texas president and Cole Schindler has been named executive vice president/Central Texas CEO.
As Central Texas president, Gibbs will be a critical liaison between the credit/lending functions and the board. He will be involved in helping manage the bank’s profitability and will assume responsibility for monitoring and managing its credit and earnings. He will also administer the bank’s specialty lending programs, working directly with the credit, lending and compliance departments.
Gibbs has worked in banking for 26 years and has been with SouthStar Bank for 13 years. He joined SouthStar Bank as the original branch executive and senior loan officer for its Southwest Austin branch when it opened in 2011. He was later promoted to chief lending officer and has served in that role since 2018. He joined the SouthStarBank board of directors in 2021 and continues to serve in that capacity. Prior to joining SouthStar Bank, Gibbs served as senior vice president at Cattleman’s National Bank, banking center CEO at Citizens Bank and vice president at FirstBank Southwest. He holds BS and MS degrees from Texas Tech University and is a graduate of the SW Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University.
Schindler will play a significant role in the vision and strategic development of SouthStar Bank’s growth in his new position. The Schindler and Brown families have owned a majority interest in the bank through its parent company, Southern Bancshares, since 1981. Cole Schindler is a third-generation family member to hold a key leadership role at the bank. He will work directly with the executive team and Kapavik in a broader role, helping lead the bank’s overall direction.
Schindler began his career with SouthStar Bank as a credit officer before being named senior loan officer. Until his most recent promotion, he served as executive vice president, strategic development officer and senior lending officer. He became a SouthStar Bank board member in 2007 and continues to serve in that capacity. Before joining SouthStar Bank, Schindler worked as a credit analyst at Lone Star Bank for four years prior to its merger with SouthStar Bank in 2012. Cole holds an MBA degree in communications from St. Edward’s University.
Established in 1920, SouthStar Bank operates 16 branches in Texas.
