General Counsel | FirstBank Southwest | Amarillo, Texas

February 2, 2022

Job Summary:  Responsible for providing legal support to the Bank, corporate governance, and managing any litigation matters.  In addition to providing sound legal advice to management and the Board of Directors.

Education:  A minimum of Juris Doctorate degree and a member of the Texas State Bar is required.

Experience:  A minimum of 8 years’ legal experience required, preferably in a financial service related field.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

  • Manages multiple lines of service within the Bank.
  • Provides legal support for escalated issues which may include threatened litigation and executive or regulatory complaints.
  • Leads complex initiatives and acts as a key participant in large scale planning.
  • Provides guidance to senior management on complex legal and regulatory matters with significant impact on business initiatives, strategy, and performance.
  • Assesses legal risk associated with all risk types and develops strategies for reducing legal exposure.
  • Leads analysis of and response to legal, regulatory, reputational, compliance, and policy matters.
  • Collaborates with other members of the Bank’s senior management team to establish the strategic priorities and policies of the Bank.
  • Leads the strategic planning and policy development activities for all functional areas assigned and is responsible for the overall performance of those functions.
  • Serves as a visible leader and voice within the Bank and throughout the community to further advance the mission of the Bank.
  • Engages business leaders to identify initiatives and business opportunities where the Legal function and/or Bank can add value or lend expertise and influence outcomes.
  • Provides comprehensive management to staff, including coaching and development, to expand their capabilities and ensure management succession.
  • Other duties as assigned.
