Citizens National Bank at Brownwood announced that J.D. Johnson, currently serving as president, has been named chief executive officer. He will continue in his role as president as well. The announcement was made by Calvin Fryar, chairman of the board.
Johnson brings more than 15 years of commercial banking experience across several markets in Central Texas. He previously served as community bank president for BancorpSouth Bank in Falls County. Prior to his banking career, he played professional baseball. After one year of junior college baseball, Johnson signed with the Chicago White Sox and played for three years in its minor league system.
Johnson went on to earn his BS degree in business management from the University of Phoenix and is a graduate of SW Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University. He has served on several boards throughout his banking career, including the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce, Brown County Fair Association and Brownwood Industrial Foundation.

In other news, Tully Hair has been promoted to executive vice president/credit review compliance. He started his career in 1984 at Citizens National Bank after graduating with a BA degree in studio science from Howard Payne University. Hair is a former Scout Master of Troop 22 in Brownwood, a longtime member of the Brownwood Bass Club and an amateur paleontologist and collector of Native American artifacts.

The bank’s roots go back to 1883 and the mercantile store Coggin Brothers and Ford Bank, which was chartered as Citizens National Bank in 1934.
