In mid-July, San Antonio-based Broadway Bank announced the retirement of longtime senior vice president and community reinvestment manager Jeannette Flores Westbrook. After a 46-year career that began in 1974, she rose through the ranks at Broadway Bank in various capacities and developed legacy programs that will continue beyond her retirement.
“We are very appreciative for Jeannette’s leadership and contributions to Broadway Bank and the communities we serve,” says David Bohne, CEO. “She established several signature programs serving the communities of Central Texas. Her passion and tenacity will be missed, but we are proud of her exceptional career and the legacy she leaves behind.”
Westbrook began her tenure with Broadway Bank in 1974 as a teller, credit card merchant representative and business development representative. Her creativity and customer engagement earned her the appointment of marketing officer in 1980. From there, Westbrook was promoted to vice president of marketing in 1990 before taking on the role of senior vice president and community reinvestment manager in 2000. Westbrook is credited with developing the Broadway Bank community reinvestment program and mentor programs, as well as establishing the employee volunteer group Care Corps, which activates Broadway bankers to serve in the community through events, charitable campaigns and donations.
“It’s been an honor to be a Broadway Banker for 46 years and I’m grateful for so many wonderful memories and accomplishments throughout my career,” Westbrook says. “I’m especially appreciative for the people I’ve worked with, including my colleagues, the Cheever family and the board of directors. Putting Broadway Bank’s mission and values into practice through community investment has been a humbling and rewarding experience. I will always be a Broadway banker at heart.”
Westbrook was named “Outstanding Volunteer of the Year” by Neighborhood Housing Services, a “Champion of Education Award” winner by the San Antonio Independent School District, “Outstanding Community Business Leader” by the West San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, “Corporate Historic Heritage Award” winner by La Prensa Foundation, “Corporate Executive of the Year” by the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber in 2010 and “Champion of Change Award” winner in 2019. Westbrook has served on various nonprofit boards, including Communities in Schools, AVANCE, Dress for Success, the West San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, United Way’s Coordinating Council, Project Quest, SA Workforce Solutions and the Neighborhood Housing Services of San Antonio.
“My career at Broadway Bank has allowed me the opportunity to work with civic leaders and nonprofit organizations serving the needs of families and communities across Central Texas,” Westbrook notes. “I’m inspired by their passion and I look forward to continuing to volunteer even after retirement.”
Westbrook was honored with a virtual celebration on July 9 with Broadway Bank colleagues and trustees. Her last day on the job was July 15.
Earlier this year, Broadway Bank welcomed Jacob Cavazos to assume the senior vice president/community reinvestment manager role and continue the momentum of Jeannette and her team.
Established in 1941, Broadway Bank operates financial centers across San Antonio, Austin and the Hill Country.
