On August 20, Charles G. Cooper, commissioner of the Texas Department of Banking, announced the appointment of Wendy Rodriguez as the agency’s deputy commissioner. She will oversee all the operational and administrative functions of the department, including strategic initiatives. She will also assist Cooper with governmental interactions, including the Office of the Governor, Texas Legislature and other state agencies.
Rodriguez is a graduate of Southwest Texas State University, now known as Texas State University, with a BBA degree in finance. Since joining the department in 1999, she has held various positions within the agency, including assistant examiner and consumer assistance specialist. Rodriguez later served as the director of strategic support for more than 11 years and was responsible for overseeing the development of examination policy and procedures, the examiner commissioning process, agency publications, training activities and consumer assistance activities.
In 2019, Rodriguez was promoted to chief operating officer of the Texas Department of Banking, becoming responsible for all administrative activities of the department. In May 2021, she took on the responsibility of overseeing the department’s management information systems.
“It is my honor to make this appointment in recognition of Ms. Rodriguez’s outstanding achievements and service to the department,” Cooper says.
