Commercial/Consumer Lender | Bank of the West | Grapevine, Texas

Job Summary: 

The Loan Officer enjoys customer contact relative to loan requests from new customers and interaction with existing customers. An employee established in the position will have a good working knowledge of lending regulations, be able to evaluate loan applications and be able to document by confirming credit worthiness. The position is also responsible for working with customers on loan-related matters, as well as branches and the bank’s attorney for loan closing/processing. The Loan Officer also requires monitoring, collection and liquidation of loans in their portfolio. This position requires attention to detail, and organization is key. The person who holds this position must be able to work independently at times and stay on task with their assigned duties, portray a positive attitude and be a team player. The Loan Officer needs to possess the ability to prioritize their assigned tasks, possess the ability to handle confidential matters in a responsible and discretionary manner, as well as follow all Bank of the West policies.

Primary Job Functions: 

  • Evaluates loan applications and documentation by confirming credit worthiness.
  • Reject loan applications by explaining deficiencies to applicants.
  • Process applications for commercial, consumer, and SBA Loan applicants.
  • Work with Loan Documentation on consumer, commercial, and SBA loans.
  • Compile new loan application packages for the loan approval committee.
  • Develop a good working relationship with all loan personnel and foster a “team” attitude.
  • Train with the Branch Manager and assist Operations if approval or assistance is needed, and participate in opening and closing the branch per the branch schedule.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Chief Lending Officer or the Corporate Office.
  • Responsible for the monitoring, collection and liquidation of the loan portfolio.
  • Responsible for developing new deposit/loan relationships while maintaining and growing existing deposit/loan relationships.

 Job Requirements: 

  • Knowledge of loan documents, loan compliance, collateral documentation for loans, and/or loan operations experience.
  • Detail-oriented and multi-task orientated person.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Must be U.S. citizen authorized to work in the United States.
  • A degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance is preferred. Otherwise, 6 to 12 hours of college accounting credits or equal job experience to allow appropriate underwriting of loan requests is necessary. 

 Job Hours:

The job hours will fluctuate based on the branch opening and closing schedule, with a 40-hour work week expected.

General Working Conditions:

This classification description is intended to indicate the general kinds of tasks and levels of work difficulty that are required of positions given this title and should not be construed as declaring what the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position shall be. It is not intended to limit or in any way modify the right of any supervisor to assign, direct and control the work of the employees under her/his supervision. The use of a particular expression or illustration describing duties shall not exclude other duties not mentioned that are of a similar kind or level of difficulty.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to communicate effectively with others, sit, stand, walk, and use hands to handle keyboard, telephone, paper, files, and other equipment and objects. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to review detailed documents and read computer screens. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The work environment requires appropriate interaction with others. Occasional travel to different locations may be required.
