The Independent Bankers Association of Texas (IBAT) Education Foundation, in conjunction with the SW Graduate School of Banking Foundation, announced that Kelsey Goates, vice president and market manager at TexasBank in Stephenville, and Leslie Gonzalez, senior vice president at Stockmens National Bank in Cotulla, have been selected as recipients of the 2025 Women in Community Banking Scholarship. These prestigious awards will support their attendance at the SW Graduate School of Banking (SWGSB) at Southern Methodist University, applying toward the cost of their first year of tuition.
Goates joined TexasBank last summer. Prior to that, she was vice president/marketing and human resources at Wellington State Bank for five years. She launched her banking career in 2013 as a lending assistant at First Financial Bank. She holds a BBA degree in marketing from Tarleton State University. Goates is a certified financial marketing professional (CFMP) and a certified professional with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-CP). The Independent Community Bankers of America included her on its “40 Under 40” list and in 2024 the Texas Bankers Association named her an “Emerging Leader.”
“What an honor to be selected for this prestigious scholarship,” Goates posted on her LinkedIn page. “I am excited to further cement my place in community banking and continue my education at SWGSB. Thank you, IBAT and TexasBank, for your trust in me to represent you well!”
With more than 13 years of experience in the banking industry, Gonzalez is a passionate advocate for the transformative power of community banking. She takes pride in making a meaningful impact on the lives of those she serves. Outside of her role at the bank, Gonzalez is deeply committed to her community, generously giving her time and energy to nonprofit organizations and volunteer efforts that drive meaningful change.
“The IBAT Education Foundation is dedicated to empowering the next generation of women in community banking,” says Christopher Williston, IBAT Education Foundation president. “Through these scholarships, we invest in aspiring leaders and champion the innovation, excellence and leadership that will drive the future of community banking.”
