Former Texas Parks and Wildlife Executive Director Joins Jefferson Bank Board

Carter SmithSan Antonio-based Jefferson Bank announced that Carter Smith has been appointed to the bank’s board of directors. He will be responsible for providing independent oversight and governance to the institution and will also serve as a member of the audit committee, as well as the board’s oil and gas committee.

Smith served as executive director at Texas Parks and Wildlife for the past 15 years prior to his retirement in January 2023. He began his professional career in 1992 as a Texas Parks and Wildlife management intern. As the agency’s executive director since 2008, he was responsible for overseeing policy, personnel, funding and strategy of more than 3,300 professionals in 13 divisions.

Smith owns and operates farm and ranch holdings in Texas and California. In addition, he is founder and manager of Asido, an Austin-based agricultural and biological products distribution company with operations in Texas, California and the Southeast and Midwest U.S.; owner and manager of Dobbs Mountain Family Limited Partnership, a family investment firm with interests in commercial real estate, private equity, and oil and gas interests; and director of the Horizon Foundation, a private philanthropic foundation.

Smith earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University and an MS degree from Yale University.

“Our board of directors is comprised of a dedicated group of diverse and experienced individuals, and we are thrilled to have Carter be a part of this team,” says Paul McSween III, chairman of the board. “With his many years of experience in a variety of roles, we are confident that Carter will support the continued growth and success of Jefferson Bank.”

Established in 1946, Jefferson Bank operates banking centers in San Antonio, Austin, Boerne and New Braunfels.
