Forbes Releases Ranking of 2024 Best-in-State Banks

September 12, 2024

Forbes’ 2024 ranking of the Best-In-State Banks and Credit Unions was released at the end of June. The list provides a comprehensive look at the elite of America’s smaller financial institutions in 2024. Forbes collaborated with market research firm Statista to conduct in-depth interviews of more than 26,000 U.S. citizens from all 50 states about the financial institutions where they maintain accounts. Survey participants were asked to rate the organization on such criteria as: customer service, the quality of financial advice offered by representatives, fee structures, ease of navigating digital services and accessing help at branch locations, and the degree of trust the financial institutions inspired. Survey responses from the past three years were taken into consideration, with recent data and responses from current customers weighted more heavily than the older data and responses from former customers and friends and family.

All told, 185 banks were ranked in one or more states.

Here are the Texas-based banks included on the list, along with banks that do business in Texas:

State Ranking Bank Headquarters CEO
1 USAA San Antonio Wayne Peacock
2 City Bank Lubbock Curtis Griffith
3 Austin Bank Jacksonville Russ Gideon
4 IBC Bank Laredo Dennis E. Nixon
5 Cullen/Frost Bankers San Antonio Phillip D. Green
6 Bank of Texas Dallas Stacy C. Kymes
7 Alliance Bank Sulphur Springs James M. Law
8 Amegy Bank Houston Steve Stephens
