On November 6, Lubbock-based City Bank celebrated Clara Edwards’ 75 years in banking. She began her career in 1948 at the First State Bank of Monahans. Since then, she has served in many capacities and is currently the smiling face that greets customers as they enter the Monahans branch.
Edwards is also active in the Monahans community. She was instrumental in bringing softball to the area’s young women in 1967. Since then, she has coached numerous teams, launched the high school girls’ program and coached the Special Olympics team. She also volunteers at the Senior Citizens Center and for Meals on Wheels.
Members of the City Bank executive team were on hand to celebrate with Edwards on November 6 and the community was invited to stop by and congratulate her. An Independent Bankers Association of Texas resolution and flowers honoring Edwards were presented and she was congratulated in Times Square in New York City with an appearance on the Nasdaq Market Site Tower electronic billboard.
Established in 1941 as the First State Bank of Morton, City Bank operates 24 branches and 16 mortgage locations in Texas and New Mexico.
