American Bank in Dallas Names Smith to Executive Leadership Team

September 6, 2020

Zane SmithDallas-based American Bank has added Zane Smith to its executive team as executive vice president of credit and risk management. He brings more than 10 years of banking and regulatory experience to the new position.

Smith spent eight years with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), where he served as associate national bank examiner before being promoted first to national bank examiner and then to examiner-in-charge. At the OCC, he supported the functional examiner-in-charge of mid-sized and large banks in completing commercial credit target examinations and providing expert information technology insight to the examination staff in 18 district offices across nine states. Most recently, Smith served as vice president at Veritex Community Bank, where he supported the chief risk officer in assessing potential risk for the bank’s $6-billion loan portfolio.

Smith earned his BBA degree from West Texas A&M University. Additionally, he is a certified information systems auditor and national bank examiner.

“American Bank continues to build its human capital with Zane’s addition to the management team,” says Chirag Patel, chairman. “This allows us to continue to execute our strategic growth plans in support of both small businesses and consumers.”

“His depth of knowledge and experience is significant, and we look forward to Zane playing a huge role for us as we grow the bank,” says Jeff Weaver, president and CEO.

Established in 1974, American Bank has more than $110 million in assets with one primary location in North Dallas and a branch in Las Colinas coming soon.
