Texas Bankers Foundation Announces New Tom Frost Memorial Scholarship for Southwestern Graduate School of Banking Students

February 28, 2021

In February, the Texas Bankers Foundation, the charitable arm of the Texas Bankers Association (TBA), announced a new banker education scholarship, the Tom Frost Memorial Scholarship. Named for the late Tom Frost of San Antonio-based Frost Bank, the scholarship is available to junior and senior students enrolled in the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University (SWGSB).

“We’re very honored that the foundation has established this memorial scholarship, and it’s fitting that it would go to a student who has demonstrated a devotion to community service and engagement,” says Pat Frost, president of Frost Bank. “Frost Bank and the Frost family have a strong commitment to the communities where we do business. All of us at Frost extend our congratulations to this year’s recipient.”

The Tom Frost Memorial Scholarship honors this legendary Texas banker and former Texas Bankers Association chairman by making a scholarship award to a deserving SWGSB student that exhibits Mr. Frost’s deep commitment to community service. The $2,500 award will be applied to the recipient’s tuition and is available to students for the 2021–22 academic year with an application deadline of March 31, 2021.

“This unique scholarship will complement SWGSB’s other scholarship offerings and spotlight the important role community service has always played in banking,” says S. Scott MacDonald, president and CEO of the SWGSB Foundation. “I know that this year’s recipient and those who follow will be grateful for this special recognition and the underwriting of their leadership development at SWGSB.”

“Tom Frost left a lasting example of community engagement for generations of bankers to come,” says Chris Furlow, TBA president and CEO Chris Furlow. “We are proud that this scholarship, through the exceptional work of SWGSB and the commitment of its students, will honor Mr. Frost’s legacy.”

SWGSB students interested in applying for the Tom Frost Scholarship can learn more by contacting Jocelyn Carby, foundation director, at [email protected] and can download the application online.
