Since opening its doors in 1900, just 10 years after the town of Sonora was established, Sonora Bank has supported generations of families across the Lone Star State. This year, the bank is celebrating its 125th anniversary since its establishment as the First National Bank of Sonora. The bank hosted receptions in September and October in honor of the milestone.
A celebratory reception was held on September 25 at the Tejas Rodeo Co. in Bulverde, with customers, team members and other members of the community in attendance. In addition, the bank was recognized for its achievement by the Texas Senate, which adopted a resolution in March 2025 to commemorate the anniversary. Additional accolades were presented by the Independent Bankers Association of Texas and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
Sonora Bank, which is still family-owned, continues to expand throughout West Texas and the Hill Country. The bank website’s history page details its growth since 1900, noting expansion into San Angelo in 1995 and the opening of additional branches across Texas in the following decades. Today, the bank operates 11 locations across West Texas and the Hill Country, including Sonora, San Angelo, Boerne, Bulverde, Wimberley, San Antonio, New Braunfels and Hutto.
