Commissioner of the Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending—Texas

June 24, 2021

General Description:

  • Oversees and directs all activities of the Texas Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending.
  • Appointed by, reports to and serves at the will of the Finance Commission of Texas.
  • Directs the regulation of state-chartered thrift institutions, residential mortgage bankers, residential mortgage companies, residential mortgage servicers and residential mortgage loan originators doing business in Texas.
  • Directs the department’s response to consumer complaints regarding regulated entities.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university, or comparable experience required.
  • Not less than five years’ experience in the executive management of a savings association or savings bank or in savings association or savings bank supervision during the 10 years preceding the commissioner’s appointment, according to Section 13.002 of the Texas Finance Code.
