Texas Panhandle Boasts Numerous ‘Best Banks to Work For’ in 2020

November 13, 2020

American Banker, along with Best Companies Group, recently cited 85 financial institutions across the U.S. as inductees on its 2020 “Best Banks to Work For” list. The recognition honors U.S. banks for outstanding employee satisfaction. It’s no surprise that a number of Texas-based community banks are included on the list. What’s interesting, though, is the concentration of “Best Banks” in West Texas and the Texas Panhandle. Here are the Lone Star State banks that made this year’s list:

No. 3: TIB The Independent BankersBank, Farmers Branch
No. 7: Benchmark Bank, Plano
No. 32: Southwest Bank, Odessa
No. 33: Peoples Bank, Lubbock
No. 37: Happy State Bank, Amarillo
No. 47: FirstCapital Bank of Texas, Midland
No. 50: Vista Bank, Dallas
No. 59: First United Bank, Lubbock
No. 71: FirstBank Southwest, Amarillo

Determining the “Best Banks to Work For” involves a two-step process. The first involves the evaluation of participating companies’ workplace policies, practices and demographics. Employee surveys are conducted to assess the experiences and attitudes of individual employees with respect to their workplace. These combined scores determine the top banks and the final rankings.

“As we strive to continue to provide a safe and rewarding atmosphere for our team members, we’re very proud and honored to be named one of the Best Banks to Work For for the sixth year in a row,” says Tracy Bacon, chief operating officer at Midland-based FirstCapital Bank of Texas. “One of the critical factors in the bank’s success is the unique culture that our team members have built to reflect our core values and motto of ‘We are family. We serve people. We change lives’.”

“We are honored to make this list for the third time,” says Dewey Bryant, CEO of SouthWest Bank. “This year, we’ve endured some unique challenges, and every time our employees have risen to the occasion. As one of our core values, we’ve always strived to create an environment built on trust. Our employees have always looked out for each other, but especially during this pandemic. Even with these challenges, we are proud we have provided a place where people enjoy coming to work.”

The full results of this year’s program are available at www.americanbanker.com and in the November issue of American Banker Magazine.
