Texas Bankers Association Partners with Texas Department of Banking to Launch Jugging Safety Campaign

April 27, 2023

On April 27, the Texas Bankers Association (TBA) announced a partnership with the Texas Department of Banking to launch a jugging safety campaign aimed at increasing public awareness about the risks of jugging and providing practical tips to consumers on how to stay safe. Jugging, a type of robbery that often occurs after withdrawing cash from a bank or ATM, is dangerous and costly. By following the jugging safety tips, customers can reduce their risk of becoming a victim of jugging and help make our communities safer and more secure.

“The entire banking community is committed to keeping customers safe, and this campaign is an important piece in achieving that goal,” says Chris Furlow, TBA’s president and CEO. “By working together with the Texas Department of Banking and our member banks, we can raise awareness about jugging and help prevent it from happening in our communities.”

With the support of the entire banking community, TBA is making posters and slip-sized customer-facing jugging safety tips available to Texas banks, which can be downloaded at texasbankers.com. These materials will help educate customers about the dangers of jugging and provide actionable steps to protect themselves. The jugging safety campaign is part of a larger effort by the Texas banking community to promote financial literacy and education, and to provide resources and support to customers in need.

“This is an area that is impacting bank customers on a daily basis,” says Charles G. Cooper, Texas banking commissioner. “By providing customers with information and tools to protect themselves, we can make a difference in preventing jugging and keeping our communities safe.”
