SW Graduate School of Banking and Texas Bankers Association to Partner on New Commercial Lending School

August 29, 2024

To help prepare bankers for current and future banking challenges, the SW Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University (SWGSB), in partnership with the Texas Bankers Association (TBA), have announced the introduction of a new commercial lending school. The inaugural session of the school will be held on the Southern Methodist University campus April 27–May 2, 2025.

The program will consist of three levels. Level 1 is an introduction to lending, focusing on the critical topics that new loan officers need to jump start their careers. Level 2 offers more in-depth training on specific types of underwriting and portfolio management skills. An optional level 3 offers additional education in the areas of credit risk management and leadership skills. At the conclusion of level 2, a certificate of completion will be awarded. Following level 3, an additional certificate of completion will be issued that includes both credit and leadership certification. Learn more at swgsb.org/cls.

“We’re delighted to partner with the Texas Bankers Association to provide this comprehensive program that will develop dynamic banking leaders who will strengthen their organizations and communities,” says William Chittenden, Ph.D., president and CEO of SWGSB.

“TBA has a long, rich history with SWGSB dating back to the banking school’s founding in 1957,” notes Chris Furlow, TBA president and CEO. “Today, we’re redoubling our commitment to the future of Texas banking not only by continuing our significant financial support for SWGSB but also through this partnership to deliver America’s premier lending school experience.”
