Legend Bank Launches ‘Snack Bar of Support‘ to Encourage Health Care Workers

October 1, 2021

Bowie-based Legend Bank has launched a bank-wide outreach effort to show support for the health care workers in its communities. It’s called the “Snack Bar of Support.” The idea started with a request from Wise Health System in Decatur. Laura Tanner, a patient navigator at Wise Health System, reached out to Delaina Henderson, Legend Bank’s senior vice president/loan services, asking if the bank would be interested in donating snacks to Wise’s new “Recharge Room,” a space to give staff the opportunity to take a break from the demanding and exhausting days. Henderson shared the request with Legend Bank executives and the team quickly developed ideas on how Legend Bank could help encourage health care workers in the middle of the COVID surge.

The Legend Bank executive team decided to stock the Recharge Room at Wise Health System and increased the support by giving each Legend Bank manager an allocation to spend on snacks and drinks to donate to their local hospital and urgent care centers. This allowed each of Legend Bank’s other branches to set up a Snack Bar of Support in numerous communities. All Legend Bank branches have collection bins to help continue to stock the Snack Bar of Support with individually wrapped snacks and drinks for the health care workers in the community.

“Our friends in health care have been pushed to the limit over the past 18 months dealing with the pandemic,” notes Jay Bearden, president of Legend Bank. “It pains us as individuals to hear about the constant stress and sacrifice that doctors, nurses, hospital and urgent-care staff, volunteers and everyone else involved in caring for the sick have endured and are still enduring daily. Given the current circumstance, we at the bank feel we have an obligation to help. We hope this small gesture provides a moment’s solace for our health care workers and shows the deep emotional sympathy and appreciation Legend
Bank has for all these brave men and women who daily step up and put themselves on the front line of this battle against COVID-19. Thank you!”

Legend Bank has stocked hospital and urgent-care breakrooms in all of its communities with a Snack Bar of Support. These include:

  • Wise Health System, Decatur;
  • Clay County Memorial Hospital, Henrietta;
  • Nocona General Hospital, Nocona;
  • Medical City North Hills, North Richland Hills;
  • Texoma Medical Center, Sherman;
  • Medical City Alliance, Fort Worth;
  • Texoma Physicians Group Urgent Care;
  • Affordacare Urgent Care and United Regional Healthcare, Wichita Falls;
  • Bonham QuickVisit Urgent Care and Texoma Medical Center, Bonham; and
  • Paris Regional Hospital.

“Thank you, Legend Bank, for stocking our recharge room,” Tanner says. “It’s the little things that go a long way and we are so grateful for our community and support. I am restocking the room daily and everyone loves it so much.”

“Medical City Alliance is so fortunate to be surrounded by community partners that truly care for our health care heroes,” says Matthew Eiserloh, director of public and community relations at Medical City Alliance. “Recently, Legend Bank donated snacks and drinks for our weary health care heroes caring for patients battling COVID-19. We are overwhelmed by their generosity and the size of the donation! Thank you to our friends at Legend Bank for your kindness!”

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to Legend Bank for its recent donation of snacks and treats for our colleagues,” says Morgan Roundy, director of community and public relations at Medical City North Hills. “Their donation allowed us to set up an expansive grab-and-go station to help keep our team mentally, physically and spiritually strong during this COVID surge!”

Established in 1890, Legend Bank serves the people and businesses in and around Decatur, Bowie, Alvord, Henrietta, Wichita Falls, Nocona, Whitesboro, Sherman, Bonham, Cooper, Whitewright, Fort Worth and North Richland Hills. The bank is one of the largest cattle lenders in North Texas.
