Impressive Number of Community Banks Among the 2020 “Best Companies to Work for in Texas”

September 6, 2020

An impressive number of community banks were included in the recently published 2020 list of the “100 Best Companies to Work for in Texas,” an annual recognition program developed by Texas Monthly magazine, the Texas Association of Business, Texas Society for Human Resource Management and Best Companies Group.

Among the companies recognized in the small-sized-employer category (15–99 employees), Houston-based Texan Bank is listed at No. 15. In the medium-sized-employer list (100–499 employees), community banks and bank-related companies include Community National Bank & Trust of Texas, Corsicana, No. 5; Guaranty Bank & Trust, Mount Pleasant, No. 7; SouthWest Bank, Odessa, No. 9; CalTech (a company offering IT strategies to financial institutions), San Angelo, No. 10; Austin Bank, Jacksonville, No. 14; VeraBank, Henderson, No. 22; Vista Bank, Dallas, No. 24; and Texas Bank and Trust, Longview, No. 33. Fintech/regtech company Computer Services Inc. (CSI) ranked No. 8 and Allegiance Bank in Houston was ranked No. 18 in the large employer category (500-plus employees).

The statewide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor employers that go above and beyond, benefiting the state’s economy, workforce and businesses. Companies of all sizes across Texas entered the two-part survey that evaluated items such as workplace policies, pay and benefits, corporate culture, training opportunities and more.

“A great place to work is a two-way street,” says Rusty Hitt, CEO of Corsicana-based Community National Bank & Trust of Texas. “It requires a good employer, but it also requires a great group of people. In a year that has presented struggles and hardship, our people have continued to serve customers and fellow employees with enthusiasm and positive attitudes. That’s what makes this bank the best company to work for in Texas.”

“This is the third year we have received this recognition and we are honored that we continue to be selected,” says Dewey Bryant, CEO of Odessa-based SouthWest Bank. “Lately, we have experienced many challenges and our employees have risen to the occasion. We are fortunate to employ people who are adaptable and able to fill in wherever there is a need.”
