On June 18, Amarillo-based Herring Bank celebrated its 125th year in business with a ceremony at its Civic Circle branch in Amarillo. The bank was founded in 1899 in Vernon by C.T. Herring and has operated a branch in Amarillo since 1996. According to the Amarillo Globe-News, three current branches are near its headquarters.
“We are celebrating over a century of banking in Texas that was started by my great, great-grandfather and has been family-owned the entire time,” Campbell Burgess, vice chair, told those gathered for the celebration in Amarillo. “We love being a part of the Amarillo community and economy. We are a community bank and love to work with our great customers. We are excited to celebrate this milestone and look forward to another 125 years.”
“This is an incredibly significant milestone with the consolidation of banking in the United States,” Andy Nenstiel, president, said at the event, according to the Globe-News. “There are not many banks over 100 years old left in the country due to the rapid consolidation we have seen in the business. It seems banks are just getting bigger and bigger. We find that we much prefer to serve our customers at our size in our locations.”
Herring Bank operates 12 branches in Texas, Colorado and Oklahoma.
