Community Bankers Invited to Develop Leadership Skills at Upcoming IBAT EDGE

February 29, 2024

The Education Foundation of the Independent Bankers Association of Texas (IBAT) is gearing up for the second-annual IBAT EDGE, a program that offers two days of education, renowned industry keynote speakers and leadership development training focused on community banks in Texas. The goal is to Educate, Develop, Guide and Empower (EDGE) community bank employees. This year’s event is being held April 3–4 at the Waco Convention Center in downtown Waco.

IBAT EDGE 2024 will feature six educational tracks with 36 breakout sessions hosted over two days. The tracks will focus on compliance, credit/lending, human resources, leadership/strategy, marketing and operations.

Two keynote speakers have been selected for the event: Dave Martin and Christopher Doyle.

Dave MartinLike many in the banking industry, Dave Martin was an accidental banker. After early careers as a radio morning man, marketing director for an oilfield industry supplier and a stretch working in the finance department of a university research facility, he was recruited by a friend to run a bank’s first in-store branch. He quickly learned that banking is a people business. Martin advocated for the power of small, talented teams and their abilities to outperform the status quo. He was preaching the advantages of “universal bankers” long before the concept became cool. Two decades later—after stints as a senior bank executive and trainer/consultant—his core beliefs about banking remain intact. Martin has become one of the most prolific writers in the banking industry. His columns and newsletters are read by thousands of financial institutions each month. His keynote presentations, seminars and podcasts have an authenticity and humor that brings teams of all sizes and seniority levels together.

Christopher DoyleWith more than 30 years of banking experience, Christopher Doyle brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role as president and CEO of Texas First Bank. He currently serves as chair of the Independent Bankers Association of Texas. He also serves on the boards of Texas Independent Bancshares, Texas First Bank, the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, CBA Bancard, Texas First Insurance and CBANC. Doyle has been recognized for his leadership by The Salvation Army, Texas City/La Marque Chamber of Commerce, TCISD Foundation for the Future and as one of “Houston’s Most Admired CEOs” by the Houston Business Journal.

IBAT has secured small blocks at Hilton Waco and Courtyard by Marriott Waco as accommodations for the event. Registration for EDGE is $995 for IBAT members and $1,595 for non-members. Click here to learn more and register online for IBAT EDGE 2024.
