Central Bank to Open Full-Service Branch in Houston’s Lower Heights District

November 19, 2020

Houston-based Central Bank will soon have a home in the city’s Lower Heights District mixed-use development. The bank will open the doors for its newest full-service branch at 2799 Katy Frwy., Ste. 150, on January 11. The new location, which replaces the Midtown Houston branch at 2217 Milam St., will provide business and personal banking services in a more modern setting.

“By moving into a more commercially active business district, we hope to bring added convenience to our customers,” says Robert Mrlik, president and CEO. “Our Midtown branch served us and our customers well for years—but as times change, we need to make sure we follow suit.”

Central Bank was chartered in 1956 in the city’s Montrose district and was originally known as Montrose National Bank of Houston, but was renamed Central National Bank of Houston in 1961. When the company transitioned from national- to state-chartered status in 1979, the name changed to Central Bank of Houston. Ten years later, the company officially dropped “of Houston,” settling into the name it maintains today. The bank operates four full-service locations around Houston.
