American State Bank Partners with NFL’s Mahomes to Accelerate National Expansion

November 2, 2022

On October 27, Arp-based American State Bank announced a partnership with Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes as the bank looks to accelerate its expansion plans and digital transformation. As part of this buildout in the Lubbock, Amarillo, Plainview and Dallas/Fort Worth markets, Mahomes has become a significant stakeholder in American State Bank.

A longtime bank client, Mahomes is now the second-largest shareholder of the 110-year-old bank as it reimagines its brand not only to expand its services within Texas, but to evolve into a disruptor of the new digital economy. The announcement coincides with the bank making substantial moves in the Lubbock market. It recently hired more than 35 new employees and will be opening a branch at 6502 Slide Rd. this year.

“I opened my first account with American State Bank when I was just 16 years old,” Mahomes recalls. “From my time at Texas Tech and throughout my career in Kansas City, American State Bank has been a constant in my life and I’m proud to join the ownership group during its transformation into a major player in the Lubbock market, Texas and the new digital economy.”

On October 29, Mahomes was inducted into the Texas Tech University Ring of Honor and Hall of Fame with a ceremony—sponsored by American State Bank—during halftime of the Texas Tech University/Baylor University game. Mahomes, who played three years as quarterback of the Red Raiders at Texas Tech University, was unanimously voted in to become the eighth member of the prestigious group and his name will be unveiled on the West Stadium Building of Jones AT&T Stadium. The son of former Major League Baseball pitcher Pat Mahomes, he also played college baseball at Texas Tech University during his freshman and sophomore years.

“As a life-long Texan, to have the opportunity to team up with someone as inspirational as Patrick as we transform American State Bank from a local bank in our great state to a global bank of the future is a dream come true,” says Brandon Steele, chairman.

Established in 1911, American State Bank operates 14 banking offices and three loan/deposit production offices.
