Tupelo-based BancorpSouth Bank announced that it has hired John Griffith as executive vice president in Hattiesburg. He will be responsible for leading the commercial banking group, focusing on owner-operated businesses. Griffith is a banking industry veteran, spending the past 24 years as a commercial banking executive with a large regional bank and another 10 years as a commercial banker with a community bank based in Meridian.
Griffith earned a BBA degree from Mississippi State University. He has completed the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University, American Bankers Association’s National Commercial Lending School and Georgia State University’s leadership development program.
Active in his community, Griffith is an executive board member of the Hattiesburg Area Development Partnership and serves on the University of Southern Mississippi business advisory council. In addition, he has served as president of YMCA of Hattiesburg, United Way of South Mississippi and Southeast Mississippi Community Investment Corp., as well as past chair of the United Way of Southeast Mississippi’s Grand Giver’s Society.
BancorpSouth Bank operates more than 300 locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas.
