Brett Mills, chief financial officer/executive vice president of Artesia-based First American Bank New Mexico, was elected chairman of the Independent Community Bankers Association of New Mexico (ICBA/NM) during the group’s 35th Annual Meeting in Albuquerque in July. He will serve until August 1, 2020.
Mills began his banking career in 1987 and has been at First American Bank since 2010. He is a graduate of New Mexico State University with a BBA degree in finance. He is also a graduate of the Western States School of Banking and the BAI Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin.
“Now more than ever, our advocacy is so important,” Mills told attendees at ICBA/NM’s Convention. “Please volunteer, participate and get involved. Get out of your comfort zone if necessary!”
New ICBA/NM board members elected during the 2019 meeting include Cody Burson, Valley Bank of Commerce in Roswell; Christopher Palmer, Pioneer Bank in Roswell; Doug Stone, J.P. Stone Community Bank in Portales; and Sharron Stuart, First New Mexico Bank in Las Cruces.
Returning for their second-year term on the board are Ruth Christopher, Citizens Bank in Las Cruces; Angel Reyes, Centinel Bank in Taos; Jennifer Weller, Citizens Bank in Farmington; and Randi Ybarra, Western Bank in Lordsburg.
Joining Mills on the ICBA/NM executive committee are Chair-Elect Alan Shettlesworth, Main Bank in Albuquerque; Vice Chair Dickie Wall, Lea County State Bank in Hobbs; Secretary/Treasurer Gordon Morris, American Heritage Bank in Melrose; Immediate Past Chair Teresa Molina, First New Mexico Bank in Deming; and Jerry Walker, ICBA/NM’s president and CEO.
The Independent Community Bankers Association of New Mexico is dedicated to representing the interests of the community banking industry in the state and the communities and customers they serve. They are affiliated nationally with the Independent Community Bankers of America.
