Michael “Mike” Kozub has been named president and CEO at Pecos-based TransPecos Banks. He previously served as chief data and analytics officer at USAA in San Antonio. Kozub graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a BS degree in mathematics, then served as a flight officer in the U.S. Navy from 1995 to 2002, which included deployment to the Persian Gulf several times. After his service, he earned an MBA degree in business and general management from Harvard University and subsequently entered the financial services industry.
Kozub’s goal for TransPecos Banks in the coming year is to focus on innovation and prepare for a more data-driven future, according to a recent report in the San Antonio Business Journal. “The effective use of data is going to lead the best banks and [is a way] community banks can separate themselves from the pack,” Kozub told the Journal.
Founded in 1924 as The Security State Bank of Pecos, the name was changed to TransPecos Banks in 2005. It operates branches in Marathon, Alpine and San Antonio. TransPecos Banks operates as a subsidiary of TransPecos Financial Corp.
