On November 20, Charles G. Cooper, commissioner of the Texas Department of Banking, announced the promotion of W. Kurt Purdom to deputy commissioner. In his new position, Purdom will have direct responsibility for overseeing the regulatory supervision of state-chartered banks and related activities.
Purdom began his career with the Texas Department of Banking as an assistant bank examiner in 1982 after graduating from Texas A&M University with a BBA degree in finance. He is also a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado.
Purdom has held numerous positions within the department, including Austin regional director, director of strategic support and, most recently, director of bank and trust supervision. He is also active with the Conference of State Bank Supervisors, previously serving as vice chairman of its Education Foundation and chairman of the performance standards committee.
“I am pleased to have such a dedicated employee…to fill this key role,” Cooper says. ∞
